I used the wiring diagram @ www.nseries.com for 12 volt conversion on my '48 8n.It was already converted, so I merely replaced the wires. My problem now is when I try to start it, it clicks rapidly but won't try to start. The sequence I used: Ignition switch terminal to Ballast resistor>Ballast resistor to original resistor>original resistor to coil and Plug 1 terminal on Alternator- Battery terminal on Alternator to terminal block>from terminal block to neg. post on ammeter- from pos. post on ammeter to ignition switch bat. post and to starter solenoid post>from starter solenoid post to pos. battery post. Also, from starter button to small post on starter solenoid. The thing worked before, so I've obviously messed up. Like an idiot, I didn't sketch the original hook up, but relied on the wiring diagram.I'm pretty sure one wire was connected to the accessory post on the ignition switch, but I don't see it on the diagram. It's a front mount distributor (6 volt)and I've got no lights hooked up.This is probably simple stuff to someone who knows what they're doing, but it's really got me stumped. Claus, if you or anyone else out here can tell this dummy what I've done wrong, I'll be much obliged.

Clicking rapidly is usually a sign of a weak battery and or dirty connections. Clean your connections and make sure that they are tight and charge your battery. Don't forget the ground cable and their connections. Your wiring sounds like it is ok.
Happy Motoring

Worked on it last night, and it was loose connection. The only thing I had to change was to move the plug #1 terminal to the accessory post and reverse the connection to the ammeter to get a true read on charging.Moving the alternator plug #1 wire to the accessory post on the ignition switch allows it to stop when you turn the key off.Works great. Thanks again, Claus.
