My 2N Ford has a clutch problem, I've never had a problem like this before. It doesn't slip or chatter, but it doesn't release right. You can push the clutch in and the tractor will travel quite a few feet before the clutch releases and it stops. Other than separating the tractor, I don't know what could be wrong. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

I had the same problem of not disengageing right away (Very Dangerous). I tried linkage adjustment which seemed to help for a short period of time. Then it finally wouldn't disengage at all. I replaced the clutch and havn't had a bit of problems since. Thats been over 2 years ago. After I replaced the clutch I started to block the clutch pedal down when not in use. Hope this helps.

The clutch has oil on the disc. If you will pull the starter off and dump in about a pint of talcum powder into the clutch housing and try to get it to go on the disc while the clutch pedal is blocked down. The talcum powder will dry up the oil residue on the clutch and it will stop the sticking. At least temporarly till the what ever is leaking dumps too much oil on it again.

Are you running anything off the PTO when you do this? If so try disengaging the PTO and see if the clutch behaves the same. You may need an ORC.
Just a thought.

Have you checked the linkage for out of adjustment ? Lengthen the linkage a little and see if that helps. Also, check the linkage for slop and wear and replace the clevis(es) and pins if necessary. However, I have a feeling that your problem stems from an oily clutch disk which is sticking to the flywheel for a few seconds everytime you step on the clutch, causing it not to release right away. I don't know an easy fix for that, maybe someone else on this Board can help.

I think Zane said to take the starter off and throw a LOT of talcum powder in there. You need seals in your transmission out put shaft or Sherman if you have one. Check with Zane before you do anything. I don't know if enough engine oil could get passed the rear seal to cause a sticking problem. Let us know.
