My N is currently 6v. I am considering converting to 12v to help other equipment. Is this a good price.

It seems kinda high to me I purchased one in Colunbia, SC for 35.00 at Astro Electric on 1168 St. Andrews Rd. phone 803-772-2100. This was a while back and the price may be higher. The alternative is a junk yard.

Another question Why do you want to change to 12 volts?

You can get a standard Delco alternator much cheaper than that (I paid $45 at a parts store -- salvage yards are usually cheaper still).

You only some wire and a light to use the standard alternator instead (we'll help if you need it).

I live in a $200,000. house that is almost payed for. The only thing I find in my front yard is chewed up gators. Is the shift key on your computer stuck? ( P.S.- I still have more than one tooth!)

thank you for proving we live in a morally, and intellectually bankrupt society.

I can and I do. Built my on house. No car payments. Pay my bills on time and don't insult people who are only enjoying a hobby. No, I am not an educator. (I mis-spelled "paid" in my prior thread) I spent 23 years in law enforcement in some of the most dangerous housing areas of Louisville. Guess why I retired? Goodby. Maybe Kim can shut you out.

No, it's not a good deal.

1, That's the wrong pulley, you'd have to buy the correct one.
2, There's no warranty. Buy one from a local store and there will be.
3, That's not a particularly good price. They cost about that at a parts store, with a lifetime warranty and no delivery charges.
4, The high power units tend to need faster rpms, so it might not even charge at all on an N.

Don't be afraid of wiring up a three wire alternator. It's *really* not difficult. Scouts honor, promise, etc. You can do it, and save yourself about $40 over this alternator.

You should be able to pick up a rebuilt alternator at a parts store for $30 or so. Just ask for an alternator of an early '70s GM. Most any will do. I just picked one up for $30. Works fine.

Charlie,

The alternator is a later version of the one wire that we have all become familiar with. It is the same as the one on my 87 Suburban.

You could use the alternator, however the price is more than I (IMHO) would pay. I would stick with a junk yard brand. ;^)

First of all the pulley is not correct. Secondly, I paid $50.00 for a one wire at a junk yard, with warranty. It is most likely off a 70's G.M. product. Easy to find. There are posts on this board that show you how to wire it up cheaply and correctly. Good Luck.
