I was looking at spec for the 2 and 8N engines. Bore and stroke are the same and numerous parts are the same. So where does the extra 5 horsepower of the 8N come in? Cam differences? Are all 8Ns higher horsepower or is it the ones with the side mount distributor? Anybody know the answer?

I believe the 9N/2N and early 8N, with front mount distributer, had 6:1 compression ratio. The later 8Ns were 6.6:1.

the 9/2 bore was 3.187 and the 8n 3.188. They changed to aluminum-alloy pistons. The difference probably was more based in marketing than in engineering.
