trying to decide wether or not to restore a 49 8n or part it out. The sheet metal is rough, engine needs rebuild (has cracked water jacket), tires & rims junk, hyd works, everythings loose. Does have sherman combo but someone broke the shifter off. My brother gave me the tractor so I have nothing in it, but see that I can throw 2k at it easy. Anyone have any ideas or need parts or have sherman parts (shift lever).

thanks Bill

Depends if you want a work tractor or show tractor. If it's just for work, maybe you can find some used tires and rims and patch the block to get it useable again.

good point, i think i'll check out the trans and rear end to see what it needs, then decide. just looked at a golden jubilee w/sherman combo, 12 v, and power steering (first i've seen) its not advertised. may make an offer. what do you think its worth, its in good working condition.

just attended an auction with a 2N - stuck, with sherman, and a midmount mower and belt pulley. Sold for $900, that was more than the running G john deere with dual 250 loader! offer him $1500-$2K and part out the N. they use some interchangeable parts. just my .02 worth

Mac(MI), If you part it out, I could use the tie-rod assembly

tie rod assy is worn , would need new joints at both ends, but i'd sell it to you

Unless the tractor has a lot of sentimental value, it would seem to me that parting it out would be the most practical plan. For the $2K you would spend and the money you make from the parts, you could buy a better N. I'd keep the Sherman for my new N, unless someone made you an offer you couldn't refuse...
