My governor doesn't appear to be working. There is no automatic thottle adjustment up or down hills, or mowing into or out of heavy grass/weed patches. Is the governor fairly easy to work on? I've read the I&T Shop Manual about it. Looks like there's some fine adjustment involved. Would it be better to install a new/rebuilt one, or try to clean the one I have? Thanks for your input. Steve

Complete repair kit is around $65.00. New govenor is between $185.00 and $285.00 depending on the source. Not tough to rebuild, as I did it about one week ago. The only tough part is to make certain you have a gear-puller handy to remove the gear from the drive shaft. Or take it to your local garage with a press and pay $5.00 to $10.00 to have it removed. Best of luck to ya!!

A year or so ago I didn't know what was wrong with my tractor, deciding I was going to fix it myself, looked at the govenor ,thought oh oh.
Read the IT manual, took it apart and found it was actually very simple. Cleaned it up, adjusted the spring, put it back on tractor works fine. Again simpler than it looks. Good luck.

Steve..... ....Governors are not "rocket science". Consider the cost of a rebuild kit cheep experience as if you get in over your head, you have a "fall back" position, the option of buying a rebuilt governor. Go for it..... Dell

First try to repair / adjust the old one. You have nothing to loose, you can always buy a new one.. You may even learn something, even if it is that you should have bought a new one in the first place.
Happy Motoring
