1944 2N - I spent all day discing and when I went to leave the field the disc would not lift. I had problems earlier in the day with the hydraulics not lifting, but was able to continue on - I left the lever in the up posistion and eventually the arms came up. Went back to it this morning and still no lift. I have had the problem of the implement settling down on it"s own (leak down) but I have never had it sit over night and the hydraulics not work. I read the threads on this site regarding "hydraulics won"t lift", but saw nothing specific to a 2N. Any thoughts?

Most causes of failure to lift are caused by excessive leakage. The cylinder maybe scored or the piston seal might be worn. If you remove the access cover with the hydraulic oil dip stick tube in in it, start the engine, make sure that the pto is engaged to drive the pump and move the lift lever up, a piston/cylinder leak leak will shw up as fluid running down the from the back end of the cylinder. The cylinder is located on the lift cover so using a flashlight , look up in that area. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES PUT YOUR HANDS INTO THE HYDRAULIC COMPARTMENT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING! You'll have to remove the lift cover to fix this leak or to replace the cylinder or the seal.

The other place a leak can occur is the pump supply tube that's located in the right front corner of the hyraulic compartment. You'll need a mirror and a flash light to look ito tht corner near the top of the compartment for a leak. A leak in this tube is usually caused by a failed gasket bu the lift cover has to come off.

Finallly, the relief valve could be stuck open. It's located in the pump and if you see a lot of swirl and turbulence and maybe even hear some noise in that area, it could be the problem. The valve maybe removed and replaced from the access port.

Next , observe your linkage. Move the control lever down and observe the contro; linkage move the bottom of the control fork forward. Then raise the lift control lever and note that the bottom of the fork moves aft.

Shut down the engine. Then reach down into the oil feeling the lower end of the control fork. The "T" shapped connection of the control valve should be within the control fork. They sometimes come out of the control fork. If that's the case, try to spread the control fork arms and slip them over the control valve "T".

Hope this helps you.

Thanks Jerry, The tractor is up at the farm right now - I hope to bring it home on Sunday and then will try your suggestions.
