Seems a little slow this evening, and no telling what some of you folks can come up with.

Things I Heard When I was A Kid

"Me N you are about to go round, and round..." (Mama talking about getting a hickory, and a holt one of my arms, and me trying to out run that switch)

"If you let that screen door slam one more time...."

"Agg him on ole devil..."

"If you keep on, I'm going to pull yer tail feathers out."

"Son, as long as you always cut away from yourself, you will never cut yourself" (My Grandpa)

"Cause I said so"

"Well butter my butt, and call me a biscuit"

My Dad always said,"Son, if you"e gonna" do a job, do it right the first time!" I worked for a company where I tried to do this my whole carreer but sommetime they seemed to think that "do it cheap the first time and then we"ll give you all the money you want to fix it later" was a better philosophy.

the motor grater man would let ya ride in the cab if you picked him a apple. as he scraped the road.

if ya put salt on a birds tail you could catch it.

When I was a kid, there were enough kids around the village to have 2 opposing baseball teams. We were the Clotho Fighting Silos (we even had a reputation as being good with the town kids, who got to play on the organized summer team). Every night, after supper, everybody would hop on their bikes and ride down to the church, where we set up our shingles for bases. Some of us would play in our bare feet, too! Just like the little Rascals. Homeplate was up against the east wall of the church. We'd play well past sunset, until you couldn't see the pitch coming anymore. One evening, a foul ball went through a church window. We were all pretty mortified.

The adults were really nice about it. We didn't have to pay for the window, and a neighbor made a part of his hay field into a ball field for us. Even built us a backstop. We played regularly until everyone grew up and moved away in the late '90s. The ball field is still there, and it gets mowed still by the neighbor. Just aren't any kids left to play.
