llamas,

I've pigeon-holed, and can't find your conversion instructions, could you help?

What type/size diode and which direction does it point, towards alternator or away??

Thanks in Advance,
Joe Kosydor

Joe..... .1 amp 50 volt diode from Radio Shack

Anode is the arrow head, cathode is the bar. Some diodes have that "printed" right on them, some have color coded bands around them on one end and not the other, some have a wider band on one end.....so many variations that even my Boeing electronic techs sometimes have to do it the old fashioned way, with a volt meter.

What you want to do is to connect a switched 12 volt positive voltage to the Delco alternator #1 terminal so that 2 things happen, 1) starts charging at idle and 2) stops battery voltage feedback from inside the alternator back to the ignition coil (which is connected to the same switch terminal) so you can turn the tractor off.

Connect the arrow (annode) to the switched 12 volt positive and connect the bar (cathode) to the alternator #1 terminal.

Because of all the confusion over diode ends, and how to mount them, and where to mount them, and how to insulate them; I personally think the idea of using a "idiot light" instead of the diode merits consideration. Its the way GM does it with their original alternator installations.

Hope this helps..... ..Dell
