My 78 year old mother had to move to an assisted living facility. We were going through some stuff and found this. How about it old timers. The base is L shaped and metal with 4 pairs of metal pins. The rest is wood. I hope the picture posts.

I think gahorN is right. It looks like the tray the ice sat in, with bars to keep it up off the bottom so it could melt correctly, and a place for the melt to run out.

We have one of those old ice boxes, refinished and converted to a bar. Our ice pan looks a lot like that, although it is crimped seet metal rather than what you show.

Reminds me of the comedian, I think Sam Levinson or dsomething like that, who said he grew up with an ice box like that. He always thought the pan under it was a deity. Reason: it had to be emptied daily or the kitchen would be flooded. Often, his mother would wake up in the night and yell, "My God, the Pan!!!!"

Reminds me of the support-tray in an old ice-box.
