Hi all, Thanks for all the information that you have been posting on this discussion board. This has helped me tremendously.

I have what appears to be a 2N(I believe, made in 1946)that today stopped lifting. I checked the hydraulic oil and filled, as it was low. Still will not lift. No movement whatsoever. I have ordered a service and operators manual but they haven't arrived as yet. Have read your suggestions for a 8n, does this apply to a 2N? Not familiar with tractors nor engines, however intend to rebuild whatever it takes to get "Bertha" back up. Thanks for you assistance.

Stu,
In general about half the suggestions for the 8N, do not apply to the 9/2N. The biggest notable difference is, the 8N has position and draft control whereas the 9/2N only has draft control. The posts about "little lever under the seat", etc do not apply. Discussions about draft control do. A typical thing that happens with the 9/2N is the control arm assembly "unhooks" from the tee shaped control valve on the pump. You can check this and look for leaks at the same time by removing the right side inspection cover under the seat. You should see the control arm assembly. Reach in and try gently moving it back and forth. Of course, check this with the tractor NOT running. The assembly looks like a big upside down "U". It needs to be spread slightly to "re-hook" back onto the control valve. You may need to drain off the oil to check and/or "re-hook". With the oil back in, you can try operating the lift and look for leaks. Search the archives for more details on what to look for. Dripping oil from above and/or oil squirting from the relief valve are the tell-tale signs. Good luck and let us know what you find.
Eric

Incidently, there has been mention of a I&T Shop manual on several messages, can anyone tell me where I might order one of these, or is it necessary?

Stu..... ..try "www.n-news.com", great archives and all sorts of manuals available including the I&T FO-4 repair manual, great info and pix's. It does expect you to know which end of a wrench to use without telling you. And then there's the N-Board to help you out.

One of the neat things about these N-tractors is: they are eazy to work on, most parts are readily available from many sources and parts prices are relative reasonable.

Hope this helps..... .....Dell
