More 8N throttle and rpm questions

I just purchased an 8N this weekend, first one, that runs and cranks great. However, the throttle seems to be very temperamentle. Seems like you have to move the throttle more than you should to see an increase in rpms. Then you really have to be watching because it will try to keep going and not stop where you have the throttle set at. It's usable but I know it's not supposed to operate that way. Could this be a case of worn out linkage? Any ideas?

Chipper..... ...you may need to inspect yer throttle linkage for "slop".

But most likely, its yer "governor". Yer governor balls gitt flatt spotted and the cone race they roll on gitts grooved. Both can be repaired. To check yer governor, with engine running about 1/4th-throttle, grab yer carb to governor rod (it won't bite you) and try and "jazz" yer engine for more RPM's. Does it "fight you"??? NO? bad governor. Rebuild kit $100 (cheap) Replacement governor $250; yer call..... ....Dell

I know when giving it throttle and watching the arm on the carb where the rod comes in from the throttle does not move until you move the lever a considerable amount and then it'll jump. Also, unless the two arms where the governor are tied together, it will try to run away.
