I'm not sure who you are, but you knoweth not what you are talking about. You most certainly can install a sidemount block in place of a front mount. All the parts will bolt on and fit just fine. One of my 8N's came to me this way. Now it is, however, not possible to bolt a front mount block in place of a sidemount. Not without some serious modifications.

Yes you can put a front mount distributor on either block. The cam and front cover would have to changed tho.The only difference in the BLOCK is the oil fill hole is moved back a few inches on the block designed for a side mount dist.,like Zane says. There is some changes to the head also, but that won't effect anything if you are adding the front mount dist. to a side mount dist. engine block, only if you were going the other way. don b

You can replace a front mount block with a side mount block. They all bolt up the same. I think this is what you mean. You of course will need a side mount distributor. A few other things are different. No ignition resistor, generator/regulator different, wiring different to name a few.

I'll restate that question, I've got a 8n with a front mount distributor. The engine block has a large hole in it so after several phone calls I located just a bare block off a 8n but it had the side mount distributor. The question is, Can I take all the parts off my older front mount block and put them on the side mount and make it work?

Everything is the same except that the generator is on the left side on the side distributor engine block and the oil filter is back about 6 inches more than on the front distributor engine. All you would need is the generator bracket and maybe the generator if you can't use yours. Probably can because the late generator is mounted using a clamp on to the bracket.
Would have to come up with that left side generator bracket.

Do you plan to use your front mount head if so no problem if not the oil filter mounts in a different location on the side mount head. Worst case you can always mount you alt on the left side, If you think you may move the alt use a lower radiator hose for a side mount application. most gaskets set come with both timing cover gaskets or order the set for a front mount application.
