I have a 47 2N and I am having a irritating problem with that starter button right in front of the gear shifter. You have to push down really hard with your hand or use your foot to get the starter to engage. I know that the button pushes on a rod to engage the button in front of the steering assembly. I have even added pennies to make switch assy. require less force but to no evail. It will work with the greatest of ease for a little while but then go back being a pain in the but again. What is the problem?

I added 2 small flat washers to starter button shaft. You just have to remove switch. To get at the shaft and lever mechanism you have to remove hood, steering wheel, and sector gear upper housing. A lot of work to get at these parts! I would not tear into this just for this problem.

Brett..... ...ya know, you gotts all the parts in hand, and yer vision is better'n my long distance vision. Shirley, you can do an inspection better'n me for worn pivot joint in the jiggle-stick. ...or... you can make a longer jiggle-stick. ...OR... you can byte the bullett and buy a REPLACEMENT starter switch. p/n: 9N-11450-B (which is probably on its last legs) Really desperate shadetree mechanics have been known to diss-assemble the 2-terminal starter switch to find out the copper contacts are paper thin. wadda concept, replace worn parts..... ..respectfully, Dell

I already have a new starter switch installed right now. It has been on less than a month so that can't be the problem. The problem must be in the pivot joint or jiggly stick. How would get to this to replace either one of these parts.

The tractor cranks and starts up fine. The switches integrity is not in question. I am complaining about the button in front of the gear shifter which requires an extreme amount of force to manually engage starter button.(which is new and works just fine). In a previous post a man talked about the physical linkages running from the button to the switch. The only problem being I don"t see in my shop book on how to get to them.

Brett...the only way to get to the linkage is to remove the top half of the steering box. don b
