Responding to question earlier today: On early production 9N/2N, the left brake pedal shank was straight except for the 90 deg. bend that formed the part for the operator's foot. When pressing on the pedal, only the operator's left boot heel kept his foot from slipping off, possibly letting his overall leg get caught in the wheel lugs. (think about the 2N's with iron wheel lugs!) The "half moon" upward bend helps keep the left foot from slipping off the side of the pedal. Originally, there were no footboards to help out, either. People with 8Ns or later tractors may not understand the problem.....

It's amazing how many common-sense solutions the Ford engineers came up with. Today they'd have to do an ergonomic computer model, run it through committees and focus groups, get OSHA approval, post caution signs on the side of the tractor, sell special footwear and retain a staff of lawyers to handle the recall litigation.

Makes sense. Thanks for re-visiting this issue.
