I'm all done cleaning and rebuilding my hydraulics and now to put the seal on the shaft...can't seem to see the old one.. my 9n has a pin and a cotter key holding a bell shaped piece of tin that covers a spring and 2 different sized retainners ..also some rubber is pressed up against the bearing housing from the engine side..
anyone got a blow-up drawing?

I bought a new oil seal and bearing for the 1-1/8 shaft that was in my 8N. The new parts looked nothing like what came out of the old one. I basically replaced a fiber seal, spacers, and retainers with a modern rubber seal. The new parts were a lot smaller, so I had some trouble figuring out how to get the snap rings and bearing to work with the new seal. All I did was make sure the snap rings would hold the bearing and shaft in the same position it was originally. Install the shaft seal on the outside of the bearing so the bearing will still be lubricated by the oil in the sump. There was plenty of room because the new parts were so much smaller than what came out of there. I was even able to find a new place on the shaft for the seal to ride so it would seal better.

Are you talking about the PTO shaft?

If so click on the link below.

Type in 8N Ford in the search box and click the search button (don't just press enter)

Then click the + at transmission

There you should see PTO Assembly 9N, 2N, 8N click on that and you should have an exploded view of the PTO shaft assembly.
