anyone ever try to do this on a N, I know you would need a pump but where would you run the line from the pump too?..the hydraulic test port?

Dave

The test port is at the bottom of the tube that supplies the fluid to the hydraulic cover. Using an auxiliary pump mounted somewhere like on the front end of the crankshaft, you would have to block the supply channel from the Ford pump so the fluid wouldn't go back towards the pump, but only into the cover. You could modify the hydraulic cover by closing off the supply tube opening and tapping in an fitting to accept a new supply line. A simple up/down system would be easy enough to do. The biggest challenge would be regulating pressure and volume, since the Ford pump has a built in by-pass system that works with the valves to enable the draft control. I think it would be easier to buy a different tractor with live pto and hydraulics. It's a thought-provoking question. A better solution would be to figure a way to make the pump & pto live through a transmission modification. I've been puzzling over a possible way to use a truck-type 2-speed rear end in an 8N. From such frustrations are born new inventions, like the Zane Thang.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm wondering where you would put the needed pump?

Just looked through RTP [Riverside Tractor Parts inc.] catalog, don't see anything for this application.

They have lots of after market, all make all models. Parts for engine, trans., hydraulic, much more , if its for a tractor they have it, wholesale only, work through a dealer network, good people to deal with.

You use a front mounted pump and somehow bypass the internal pump. I saw it in the N-Newsletter several years ago. Lots of plumbing that has to be done as I remember, need a suction (return) line from the reservoir, etc.
