I've been getting max 2000 rpm at full throttle on my 52 8n sm. Someone here said it ought ot be about 2200. Yesterday I was playing with the throttle linkage and noticed that if I pull the governor linkage separately it would rev WAY up to 2600 or so RPM, just as smooth as warm butter. I also see there is a little set screw at the carb that connects to the governer linkage. Is it okay to set the governor speed up a wee bit and would I use this set screw to do this?

While max speed is 2200 rpm, the adjustment is made on the governor, not the carb. The stop screw on the governor turned out increses rpm, turned in, reduces it. Check page 42 in your I&T FO-4 manual for lots of detail & pics.

OKay, Bruce, I'm looking at the manual and just want to clarify. If I want to adjust the governor so that I can max out at 2200 rpm, I simply adjust the max speed stop screw out until I achieve the desire results? It shows how to slow down an overspeed by adjusting the governor linkage. Does adjusting the linkage the "other" way increase speed or should I just leave the linkage alone?

I try not to get pulled into remarks like this, but... I've always found that people who get off on correcting misspellings (intentional or otherwise) usually do so because they have nothing else intelligent to add to the conversation.
Besides... I 'spect Dell really IS cute.
