Wow!! I don't care if the hood script is correct or not, this is a beauty. If it runs half as good as it looks you've got a winner. Question - What rim and tire size are on the front? I'm about to sandblast and prep the wheels on my 8N. If I can find what you've got on your's I might just go for the wider tire.

I'm more interested in the garage than the tractor. How in the world do you keep it that clean? No self respecting possum would even set a paw in my garage.

Great looking rebuild, Lani. Looks like you've got a hundred-series bumper(like to have it for my 860).

What size are those front tires?

Jeff

You're right about maybe never being completely done, but yours sure looks nice.
I'm very curious about that shiny metal in the area of the battery holder. Can you explain what that is? It looks like you've got the battery boxed in.
I was also wondering about your front bumper. Was that on the tractor when you got it, or did you add it on during the restoration?
I wish I had those brand new rear tires on my N !!
Oh, and I love your fancy garage floor. Is that the special epoxy paint finish? It looks clean enough to eat off of! lol

Looks good. From what I can see of it that has to be a 1950-1952 8N with side mount distubutor.

Hoods wrong then. The script hoods didn't come out till 1950 and the side mount distubutor from what I have been told.learned about them. My 1950 8N has the script hood but my 1949 doesn't.

I did a little more research on this. According to John Smith's web site, all the 8N's had scripted hoods, beginning with the first models in 1948. As Tim (OK)below mentioned, maybe it is the script fenders that you're thinking about. Smith's site says that the script fenders began with serial number 273178 in 1950. Hope this helps to clear up any possible confusion. But this doesn't explain how you can have '49 8N WITHOUT a script hood! Maybe yours was replaced at some point in its life with a pre-8N hood? Does it have the screened vent door over the air cleaner? That was introduced with the 8N model year (according to Smith's site).
I know you've been working on and using these tractors longer than I have, and I also have seen some pretty weird aberrations show up on some of these tractors (like an 8N with no 3 pt on it etc)so nothing really surprises me anymore.....lol

Ya you never know what you will find on them since they are 50 plus years old who knows what all has been done to each of them. And yes you maybe right on the hood part. I know one ot the ones I have has no script any thing and the other one does. But also the one with out also has an engine that is painted blue which also isn't correct

It's possible that what you see on the hood are just the script decals. I'm just guessing but that would be one explanation of how it could be a '48 and have the Ford script. Only Lani can tell us for sure.

But is it the one that came on it new or did some one put it on. Or it could also be one of the last ones made in 1949 and then it could have it because they had run out of the other hoods.

Came on it. I bought it from the original owner. Like the other poster, I thought the fenders were where the script came in. I know of another locally that had the script hood too. It is a 49. I think some of these changes were made mid-year.

I believe the script was on all 8N hoods,it was the script fenders that didn't come along til late 49 or early 50.. could be wrong though

Hey Tim...yes, all 8N's were designed from the factory w/ script hoods. But....you know if there were any non-script 2N hoods left over, or if the script hoods for the 8N came online a little early...a few last 2N's or the 1st few 8N's might have rec'd the wrong hood.

My 8N(4778)was likely assembled sometime in October '47, & has its original script hood.

Nope unless some one put a differant hood on my 1948 or 49 which ever it is because it doesn't have the script hood

Old,like Jeff said, that makes yours either a very, very early 8N with a leftover 2n hood,or somebody swapped it out.. cause if it's an 8N,it should have script hood..
