Well, I got this mystical gizmo installed. The instructions are two pages long, but most of that is for operation and adjustment. The unit was a tight fit at the mounting holes, but it fits.

The first adjustment instruction is to set the third brush to minimum, and start the tractor. Then turn on all electrical devices. As the instructions state, the ammeter will read -10 to -15 amps. With my two headlights, one rear marker light, and one rear implement light, I was showing -12 amps. The instruction now says turn up the third brush so a 1/2 to 1 amp charge is shown. I turned mine all the way up but never got it to a positive charge.

This is more likely caused by a problem I have been hunting for rather than the new unit's operation. I checked the voltage at the battery and 6.1 volts is what it read running at 2/3 throttle. This was the problem before and unfortunately the new "regulator" didn't solve it. But more on this on another message post.

I mowed grass for about an hour and everything on the tractor still worked. The amp meter showed a positive charge the whole time (I readjusted the third brush to medium position until charging problem can be found). After the hour, I read 6.1 volts at the battery. Turned off the tarctor and the voltage read 6.0 even. And better than the cutout relay, the new regulator didn't require a "tap" on the case to get it to stop discharging.

I will keep you posted on the gizmo! Good Night!
