Mine also is a side mount distributer with a proof meter, ford emobossed hood, but no fender scripts. I really wish I could pinpoint my year, but I have no serial number on the block- nothing at all. I"ve fine sanded with steel wool and everything. I too have a mutt. (and I looooo oooove it)

Do you have date codes on the rear axles or engine block? How about the bottom of the hyd pump? Some tractors have date codes everywhere and some are blank slates.

As Woodie says, the proofmeter came before the Ford script fenders by about 18000 units, so every 8N with a proofmeter should have script fenders.

I have a pair of script fenders I'll be selling soon if you need a pair.

CAST DATE CODE in reply to N. L. (MS), 05-22-2006 19:05:50
Find the date cast codes on different parts. The trumpet, the hydraulic pump cover (under the tractor tranny), ... The proofmeter says it is 1950 1/2 or earlier. Not sure when they put Ford script on the fenders or if they put it on the hood first and fenders later? Some one else can decifer the dates for ya. I'm rusty there. HTH

Sounds like another mutt tractor. Over the last 50 years so many parts have been changed on so many of these tractors its hard to tell if any of them are the same as when they where brand new. Plus there where a number of reasons a fender was removed and then the tractor sold and of coures they could find the fenders and then the next guy found fenders but they where not from that year so no letters on them.
