Dawn- my regrets about Arthur. Things seem to look better in daylight- maybe tommorrow will be better. Hang in there. I probably know less about these machines than anyone and have learned so much just reading your posts and the expert replies. All those pictures have been great! Now my question for the experts- do these pictures show casting dates on the axle trumpets? My engine is a 48 but i think the tractor chasis is 1940.

Thank you for the kind remarks, B. And I am sorry I just got online to see your post -- and even sorrier if somehow no one is responding to it because they think it is just for me. :-( Maybe you should repost a different way?

Anyway, I did look up the casting codes at one point, but I am not sure what I am seeing here. It kind of looks like an S or an 8, and a 1, sideways? With maybe a C above it? Is that what you're seeing? Or am I looking at the totally wrong thing?
