Guys, a friend dropped off his 8n for me to look at, when you lift the touch control the lift goes up but will not come down until the tractor is turned off. Just give me some thoughts as to where I should start looking. Thanks Dave

While it could have a number of problems, I'd start w/ the easiest to diagnose first: a stuck exhaust valve caused by dirty/waterlogged fluid. Remove the inspection plate w/ the dipstick. Start the tractor, raise the lift. Turn the tractor off, reach in the inspection port & push the control arm to the rear. If the lift arms drop, the exhaust valve was stuck. Check the fluid; if it's milky, it's waterlogged & needs changing. Stick your hand down in the fluid & see if the pump base is full of sludge. If so, you will need to clean it out. If you need help on changing the fluid or cleaning out the sump, let us know.
