Jubilee hydraulic bobbing

I have a Jubilee on which the hydraulic lift works fine, except for one problem. With a heavy implement attached (5' brush hog) and raised with the engine/pump operating, the implement will bob up and down a few inches every 10 to 15 seconds if the implement is raised more than a foot off the ground. If the engine is turned off and the lift handle is raised to the top quadrant the implement will stay up for weeks. If the lift handle is placed in the middle, the implement will drift down about 10" and stay about 6" off the floor. The manual indicates that the problem is either a small leak around the piston ring or the hydraulic control valve. I checked the piston and there is no leakage around the piston (on a Jubilee you can see the piston by simply removing the filler cap). So, the problem is probably the control valve. Where can I find a new control valve and bushing? Are there retrofit valves with O rings rather than the sliding metal valve/bushing assembly? Does anyone have any suggestions. I tried CT and several other places. This is the final problem on the complete rebuild of the tractor. Thanks.

Could it be that the piston and ring are fine, but that the cylinder wall itself has a bad spot. That would be my guess with what you are describing. Good Luck.

Mike, I have a 2n and when the level of hydraulic fluid (134D) is low it makes the lift hunt. Check the level. homeboy
