Leveling arm

When I bought my 8N two years ago the leveling arm was welded. Now that I want to use the plow I would like to fix the leveling arm. I am not sure if it should be completely replaced, or if I should grind off the weld and replace the broken part. The gearbox part of the arm may be ok. I can turn the lever approx 10 degrees both ways. It turns smooth, but as soon as the backlash is taken up it stops.

The rod is welded to the fork, and the grease fitting is missing from the fork. I would think this indicates that once the grease fitting sheared off the previous owner no longer greased it and before long it was stripped out.

Is it worth digging into???? Or should I get a new one???? Maybe it is possible that the previous owner set it to the right position for plowing and welded it there??? I did get a plow with the tractor.

Thanks for the advice. This may be a case of I don't know what I'm missing. I will take it apart and see if it can be fixed.

I don't know the best fix for the problem but, you must get it fixed. I use the leveling box on mine all the time as I change implements. The driveway grading being where it is most useful. Mine is welded to but it still works-13 years in this case.

If, I have read your post correctly your leveling arm doesn't function due to being welded. Why bother? Get a new one and be done with it.

Somewhere in your tractors past some previous owner was to cheap to repair it correctly.
