Just purchased a new KK 5' brush hog. Went home, assembled it, added gear oil to the gear box, attached my ORC, and took it for a spin. I had been using a friends FORD cutter that has been welded MANY times. Anyway, I was very suprised by the amount of vibration from the KK. Also the gearbox is so loud it is annoying. My neighbor, a real farmer, thought that the KK should not act this way. We brought the up to speed several times and noticed that the entire brush hog assembly would shake 2-3". The "whirr" from the gear box is associated with the vibration. I watched the stump jumper and blade assembly, and noticed that they were very much out-of-balance. Is this normal for this piece of equipment. I read that many of you use this brand. I had considered a Woods, but felt that the deck design was good on the KK and that the cost difference was not justified. I can take the KK back to Q F&F for a new one, but did not want to go the trouble of trying again if this is normal. I guess to boil it down. Does KK balance the cutter at the factory?

If the blades are articulating freely check for the blade mounting holes being equal distance from center of the stump jumper. A friend purchased a new brand X rotary cutter at auction a few years back and the blade mounts were not equal distance from center. He had to fix his but if this is your problem KK should replace it. The advice to check driveline length is right on. A rotary cutter should not vibrate. Good luck, ray

My Bush Hog (tm) bush hog doesn't viabrate hardly at all. Suggest you not operate it as it's unsafe. Get to the problem. MY $.02

Did you look underneath (with the engine off!) to see if the blades are pointing straight out at 180 degrees to each other?
When I first got my KK 5'Hog last year, it had been sitting in CT's yard for months and the blades had 'tightened up' due to surface rust. The blades are supposed to be 'free' as in not stationary. This is to allow for hitting stums etc. They are kept out at 180 degrees by centrifigal (or is it centripital) force when spinning. I sprayed the blade at the bolt with penetrant and they freed up immediately and no more shaking.
The other day I took it out of storgae and did my prep work on it. Found the blades 'stuck' off kilter again, so I freed them before hogging. No vibration whatsoever. As for the noise level, my hog whirrs louder than 2 tractors. I seldom wear hearing protection when plowing with my 8N, but when I shred, I wear serious muffs on my hardhat...

Hope This Helps...

Any new equipment should not operate as you described. I would look for what most likely would be a very noticeable problem such as loose parts, bolts etc. Is your drive shaft short enough? many need to be cut for the N's. If the cutter is the problem, go back to the seller and/or go to kingkutter.com and send them your complaint. Or if if you prefer call them in the morning.
