I just wanted to thank all of you for the input that you gave during my recent tractor shopping activities.

Thanks to you input, I was able to get what I think is a very good price on a Ford 8N Funk Conversion (6-cyl) and bush hog. It's being delivered on Monday and I can hardly wait!!:-)

If any of you have particular experience/knowledge about these Funk converted tractors, I would welcome and hints, tips, suggestions, etc. that you may have.

Thanks again for all of your help and any future guidance you may provide.

Best regards,

Bill

It seems to me that the big difference between an "N" engine and a car engine is that the "N"'s heavy oil pan is actually the frame of the tractor. It's the only thing that holds the front end to the back end.

So - did the Funk Aircraft Co. make a heavy steel replacement oil pan for these 6 and 8 cylinder car engines? Seems like that's what it would take to change engines on these. Once that's done, adapting to fit the hood, cowl, and transmission housing would be relatively easy.

Never having seen one, I'm just wondering if that's what they did. Congratulations on your Funk/Ford!

Hi Bill,
Congratulations! Maybe sometime down the road you could post a photo. Have seen 8 cyl. but never a 6.

third party image

Can't remember where I got the photo, and it may be a V8 but as I remember it was a 6. You don't get a good picture of the engine. I have a v8 close up if your interested along with about 100 other ford pics.

Always interested in any photos of 8n's.
Especially out of ordinary conversions and/or
applications. Any pictures greatly appreciated. I have 1 and a half 8n's and if i ever hit the lottery i will make 3 out of them. In the mean time i will have to be satisfied with collecting
pictures. Would eventually like to make an articulated 8N as i don't belive any one's done that yet. Best luck and keep those pictures coming. Yours Cranky Yanky.
