Newby's post below got me thinking..All of the rockers I've seen were of the 3 hole variety, was this something that came along on the later tractors or?? My 48 has a 1-hole version..not gonna change regardless, just wondering..

Tim..... your 48 came with the "1" hole rocker 8n535.Looked just like the 9n 535 used on 9-2ns except the anchor hole dia.Yours is supposed to have the long anchor hole pin[8n486] and bushings.Changed to the "3" hole [8n535b] around 1950 and eliminated the long pin[8n486]and bushings.I don't think this part had anything to do with the Henry Ford and Henry Ferguson trial, since the trial wasn't even over by 1948.When the trial was over in 1950,the court gave Ferguson 9.25 million and mandated a hyd. system change for 1953 Fords. don b

Tim..... ...the 9N/2N came with 1-hole 3-point rocker. The 3-hole rocker was part of the 8N's gittta'round Harry Ferguson's 30-million $$$ patent infringement suit against Ford Motors for breakin' the "hand-shake" agreement he had with Henry Ford. Henry HATED lawyers. The extended "leverage" of the 3-hole toplink acted like a mechanical amplifier to increase the hydraulic's sensitivity when pulling tillage equipment (sweeps & shovels) to "weed" row-crops. Now they use weed-spray chemicals. As to why your early 8N has only 1-holer, don't know. Do know the general accepted advice, is DON'T USE THE TOP-HOLE. Store a spare linkpin there..... .Dell

Dell, my 3 hole rocker also had another connection point. It is held on by the same pin that holds the rocker to the differential housing, and it has two set screws on it. I"ve been told it was for a mower attachment....I can send a pic if you need...any idea what it actually is for? Was it a Ford item?...didn't find a part # on it.

Yep, it is for a mower. I have one on mine AND the mower that goes with it. It was so the mower did not activate the draft control linkage in side the lift cover possibaly damaging it. Of course, the mower did not need draft control but if you used the mower in draft control position, then you could raise and lower the mower with only a small movement of the touch control lever. I think that if it was mounted and adjusted properly you wanted the mower all the way down when cutting. So draft control was an easy way to do that. BUT if something drug on the mower blade you didn"t want it to lift either. The mower had a break away mechanisim to keep from tearing up the cutter if it hooked on something like a fence post.
