8N clutch problems

I'm bringing a 52 8N back to life that has been sitting outside for the last 3 yrs (was running fine before she was laid up). I got her fired up after replacing points/condenser and plugs. However, the carb is flooding (float sticking I believe) so I pulled it to rebuild. The problem is when it was running I noticed that the clutch would not engage to shift gears. 2 questions - 1) Could the PB Blaster I used on the flywheel to clean it to find the timing marks cause the clutch to not engage and 2) Does anyone know what the thread and pitch is on the clutch adjusting screw eyebolt - there is so much rust that I want to use 2 nuts to adjust it so I do not break the adjusting screw eyebolt or the linkage that actually goes through the housing. Thanks alot for any help.

I'd use carb cleaner or brake cleaner not PB. Clutches and oils don't mix well. Also is it the clutch will not engage or disengage. Disengaged is when the pedel is down for shifting it to a gear. Engaged is when you are in gear and moveing. Which is it with out knowing for sure we can not help, maybe guess but thats it.

The problem is that the tractor will run, but I can't put it into any gear (i.e., the clutch pressure plate is not engaging to allow me to shift).

You still have it back wards. The clutch isn't disengageing. Common problem with tractors. Block the pedel down for a day or 2. Then being very careful start the engine in gear and drive it around with the pedel held down. The clucth is stuck and by driveing it that way it will probably pop loose. I have one that I keep a cement block on when I'm not useing it or it will do the same thing.

I think I understand. The pedal was up, so what your saying is the clutch is stuck in the engaged position. I can try your technique to break loose - but how do ya start in gear with no running distance and uphill?

That can be a problem. When my clutch sticks I just drive it out in the field but, my front yard is a 40 arce field. Another way to do it is to jack it up and hit the brakes when its in a high gear 3rd or 4th. What has happen is that the clutch has rusted to the flywheel and thats why you have problems putting it in gear.
