Bought this 51 8N back in July and intended to just do a basic tuneup and replace fluids.

Three months and $1500 later, it's almost done.

Thanks everyone 2 more pics in reply to Jim WNY, 11-11-2005 18:46:55
Couldn't have done it without all the answers I found in the archives here.

I put new bearings and seals in steering box, replaced radius arms, replaced hydraulic ram, replaced front hub seals, 4 new tires and rims, all new wiring, new gauges, rebuilt the governor and carb, new points/plugs/rotor/cap/wires, replaced PTO seal. New hydraulic hoses and seals for the FEL.

Engine required no work. Idles at 400 RPM and holds 25 PSI oil pressure at warm idle.

3-pt will hold scraper blade with no noticable leak down after 24 hours.

Sandblasted almost every removable part. Fixed dents and rust holes on sheet metal and sprayed with epoxy primer and Acrylic Enamel. Still have a little more painting to do including the Ford script on the fenders.

Very nicely done. This might sound kinda crazy, but I wish I had that rear blade, they work really well plowing snow IF you have a gravel driveway. They are light enough that 90% of the gravel stays on the lane. I also finish graded my yard with one. Didn't drag big piles of dirt, but enough to fill in the low spots. I sold mine with a tractor and now wish I kept it.

Jim, that's a restore to be proud of. It looks too good to put back to work. Better find another one, they like company anyway.
