I'm desperately looking for an exact as original throttle for my '51 8N. I could have mine galvanized, but the ball that fits into the notches on the throttle plate is worn out. I've ordered a new throttle plate, but just can't find a throttle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Drew

Drew: You shouldn't have to replace the whole throttle stem and arm unless it is broken or too far rusted to be of use. Even if it is broken you can weld it back. Basically, All you need to do is invert the rod on your vise or anvil, and take a center punch and tap from the underside the neck area next to the ball so you can loosen up the ball. You can then turn the ball over and eliminate the flat spot. Crimp the neck area back together to hold the ball in place (you can hammer it back) and you've solved that problem. While you have the shaft and handle out, put a larger, heavier tension spring on the bottom (the lower shaft inserts through it). Replace your throttle plate and put a new throttle rod return spring on the bottom.(it stretches horizontally)It makes a nice little do it yourself project and you will enjoy your new throttle controls.

Can you replace the ball in the throttle handle? If your going to replace the whole handle you might want to try that first.
