Finally got some beautiful weather so I can forestall the 8N swat team, BUT, my wife wrecked her Impala Thursday, so I get to tote her around today. It just so happens there's an antique tractor pull in Albertson NC, near where I have to take her. Some serious deliberation: stay home work on tractor; go to tractor pull...?
OK, tractor pull it is. See ya later!

Yep....anything but work on that damn tractor. :-)

I got an idea. How about getting yourself a restoration web page like Jim Bish's. He's had his 9N restoration in progress for about 5 years now. ;^)

I just finished fixing up my Dad's 640. He's coming over tomorrow to help me put the hood back on. I've working pretty hard on it for the last couple of weeks.

Stuff accomplished:

·Rewired entire tractor (Main harness, battery cables, etc.).

·Disassembled carburetor, cleaned, and reassembled with new gaskets.

·Installed new tail pipe bracket and clamp.

·Replaced rocker arm valve cover gasket.

·Replaced push rod valve cover gasket.

·Installed tune-up kit (plugs, points, condenser, rotor button, distributor cap).

·Removed radiator, welded radiator support bracket, installed radiator and filled with antifreeze.

·Changed oil and oil filter.

·Checked fluid levels in transmission, hydraulic, and differential housings. Everything ok.

·Tightened exhaust/intake manifold nuts.

·Charged battery.

·Installed helicoil in stripped out hole.

·Took air cleaner assembly to car wash and cleaned.

·Added washers to radius arm ball and sockets to take up slop.

·Installed bullet connector on headlight and tail light wires.

·Removed gas tank, cleaned thoroughly, and re-welded broken gas tank brace, reinstalled.

·Installed new fuel tank shut-off valve.

·Drilled hole in left hand brake pawl rod and added washer and cotter key (keeps rod from slipping out of brake pawl).

·Waxed hood and added “Model 600” decals on both sides of dog-legged panels.

Just keep busy with that 8N, bg!! :-)

What I don't understand is when do you have time to do all of this stuff? Don't you work, go to church, play with the dog and grandkids, or any of the things "normal" folks do? Then there's the $$ thing....

Bg,

You have to make the time. I set goals everyday. I write down stuff to do for the day/evening and if I get some of the stuff done, I'm satisfied.

I'm single as of the moment so I need not have to play with the wife. :-)

I have no grand kids, cause my only child (daughter) is only 11. I aint gonna rush that. ;^)

I have friends that go to bars 3 or 4 times a week. I could do that but elect to work on something constructive. The bar scene is costly...in all respects.

"Normal" folks?....Hum...have to think on that one. That's a broad subject. What's normal to some isn't normal to others. I aint normal ;^)

Money....well, the stuff I did on Dad's tractor was under $200 and he funded the project. I supplied the labor.

Dad like me, lives about 125 miles from the farm. He drives there every week to tend to his 87 yr old mother (my grandmother). He also works hard fixing fence and doing other chores around the farm to keep things looking nice. I don't visit as often as I should, so my contribution is keeping these tractors going for Dad's use on the farm.

I feel good about what I'm doing and it makes him proud. He doesn't have much of the mechanical skills. I don't have much more. ;^)

Sorry for the long reply,
Keep yourself motivated on the 8N, bg. You need to finish it and haul it to some shows. You'll be proud too.

Going to antique tractor pull was really a good motivator. I am not into tractor pulling, I just like to see the different tractors and the approach some folks have taken in "fixing" them up. Some folks have done outstanding work, especially the "stock" pullers. I'm not really into shows either, since there are no points awarded. I just look forward to the day when I can bush-hog again. with a like-new tractor. I'm planning on painting the rest of my "red" parts this week, if I can work it in along with my IRS deadline.
