I once saw an 8N with what could be considered a live PTO. It looked to be a clutch pack between the transmission and rear end, and was released by moving a lever that came out of the PTO lever cover. It really wasn't a true live PTO, as it simply stopped the tractor from moving by adding another clutch after the transmission. I'm not sure, but I think it was made by Sherman. Sherman did make hydraulic-controlled units for the Jubilee/NAA, same idea but they used a small hydraulic pump added behind the main lift pump to assist the actuation. Have seen a couple of those as well.

If you want a live PTO, best to buy a newer Ford with it built-in.
