Hello,

I expect to be posting some questions here since I just bought my first 8N (1951 w/ 7 ft rear blade and brush mower), and hopefully after I get more familar maybe even answering some questions some day.

I am looking for a backhoe attachment for my "new" 8N. I have seen references mostly to the Sherman backhoe, but also the Pippen. I want a backhoe to do a bunch of digging on my 2.25 acres, and I understand that an 8N backhoe may not be the fastest thing in the world, but can anyone tell me how well these actually work? How likely is it that I will ever find one?

Thanks,

Darren

They are out there. We had one in the 50's but took it off and sold it because it tied up the tractor and lost use for farming.
Understand, they are not a three point hitch implement. You really need a tractor dedicated to these older backhoes. You are talking some major heavy work to mount one on the tractor or take it off.

Thanks for your reply. What kind of major heavy work are you talking about? A couple of hours, or does the tractor need to be significantly modified to accomodate the hoes? As long as it was something I could put on or remove in 2 or 3 hours, I would be fine with that. I would probably leave it on most of the time anyway.

Thanks,

Darren

I have a Sherman with a manual that came with my tractor that I haven't used. I'm willing to sell it. It has been parially restored. One piston is gouged. It's way too heavy to ship. I live in Monson, MA.
