I was experiencing hiccups on my Jub, about once every 5-10 seconds when hot. Lift operated OK and would hold a raised 5 ft brush hog overnight. Removed left PTO shift lever cover and observed with engine running. No leak found at ram piston however saw steady flow of fluid at front (closed end) of ram cylinder. Every time lift would correct you could see a large gush of fluid come out the baffle plate, manual says this is normal. Removed cylinder from lift cover, gasket appeared OK. A small amount of fluid was seen dripping from rear (open end) of cylinder out a small hole in the plate. Some slight corrosion noticed inside control valve bushing as well as unloading valve bushing but not too bad. Unloading valve does not have groove for O-ring as pictured in the I&T manual. Noticed the line under acorn nut is kinked near the top at the 90 degree bend and the back pressure valve was stuck slightly open. Worked with it and now it returns to the seated position, can this valve be disassembled? Need ideas on what to do while it is apart. Is it likely the light corrosion inside the bushings is causing bypass or could the back pressure valve have been the culprit? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Replace the unloading valve with the one with the O ring on it and the hiccuping will be fixed.
The one you have is the original style and was supposed to have been replaced in a recall nearly 50 years ago.

You should replace the back pressure vavel if it has not resistance to blowing into it with your mouth. This is very important for the unloading valve to shift back and forth. Especially after it is replaced with the O ring valve.

Zane, thanks for the info, will locate the later style unloading valve and see what happens. I appreciate your help.

Went to FNH dealer and learned the unloading valve with the O ring can only be used witht the proper bushing. Bushing is $258 and is only available in std size. As my housing has been reamed to a yellow oversize I cannot install the new style bushing and unloading valve. Put tractor back together with new gaskets, seals and 134 fluid, same problem- hiccups about every 6 seconds with a load after warmup. Am considering going to 90W mineral oil this summer since fluid will get much hotter/thinner then. Any pros/cons on 90W?? Any chance of damaging the pump?? I am located in Okla City and don't use the tractor much in cold weather. Thanks for any ideas.

I had forgotten about those color coded different sizes. It has not been honed out but rather that is how they used to fit the holes they machined when they came out a little wrong. Another one of a different color probably would work just fine if it didn't just fall in the bore.

The 90W oil will not harm any part of the tractor except the engine. That is what they were disigned to use to begin with when new. 134 was not heard of then.

Actuall the hiccuping will not harm a thing. Just nerve racking!!!!
