Rebuilt the pump and replaced lift piston with o ring type in my 8n. Now can i use the universal trans/hydraulic fluid listed for Ford New Holland 134c,d,b and a its 10w20 i think? I remember seeing this at Tractor Supply Co when i was there to get the trans/hydraulic fluid listed for the 30 something through 50 something ford tractors. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone,I think i will stay with the 90wt base on everyones advice. I dont think i want to replace half the seals so they dont leak with the thin fluid.

I changed my 8n to the oring and naa piston, and still went back with the 90wt oil.

I have no axle seal or tranny seal leaks.. and plan to keep it that way.

The way I understand it...the 134 oil is thinner than GL-1. Cuz this oil is in 3 different sumps, it could leak in places you didn't have leaks before (axle seal is one place). I did the O-ring thing as well, and stayed w/GL-1.
HTH....don t. ....

All major oil companies make and sell the 134 equivelent oil. Just look on the side of the five gallon bucket at most parts houses or tractor supplys.

The NAA piston and rubber rings will seal better than the steel rings. If the cylinder is badly scored it will still seal where the steel rings will not but the scoring will wear the O ring more rapidly than it would if the bore were smooth. Honing helps.

I did the same repairs as you did and stayed with the GL-1 90 wt. I wasn't that impressed with the NAA piston and o'ring system.
