My 46 2N starts just fine, but will only run for a couple minutes before dying. I wait a few minutes and it will repeat the process. To me it seems to be a fuel problem, but the glass bowl is always full and the screen filter is clear.
Possibly a float problem?

I have a 46 2N. would run like crazy till everything warmed up. Then it would start cutting out. had to use choke tohelp keep moving once restarted...checked screens,(all three) new fuel line, rebuilt carb, did check ignition, replaced as precaution, had several coils,so tried all 4 of them, same problem, scratching head. went to airport to work on friends airplane with vapor lock problem, Lite bulb in balloon appeared above my head! rushed home looked at fuel line, old and new same length, (really to short). Fuel line leaned in towards manifold due to length. ah ha!!! got piece of 5/16 airline, slit lengthwise and put on bottom 8 inches of line. 2 clamps to hold on and waa-laa!! last 2 wks, no more problems..when manifold got hot it heated up fuel line and caused vapor lock...I think i earned that Coors lite this time, Tom-Pa
wpa at that

..".I think i earned that Coors lite this time"

Who would drink Coors Skunk Pi#s at a time like this, break out the "Rolling Rock" and enjoy.

I agree with the others. Mine did the same thing and it was fuel. There are 3 filters in the fule line. One on top of the shutoff valve and sediment bowl inside the tank. This is where mine was plugged. The second is on top of the sediment bowl. Take the sediment bowl off and it is inside the metal base. The third in at the elbow going into the carb.

My 8N did the same thing and it was a problem with the float.

WFK, My tractor had the same symptoms. But I knew it wasn't fuel because whenever I would take the gas line off of the carb. it would run a good stream of gas. When I would see the good stream I would put the line right back into the carb. Waste not want not. After about two years of trying everything electrical I discovered that the gas line was filling up slowly the whole time I was removing it. I left it off the carb. a little longer and it went down to a small drip. This may not be your problem, however when you finally figure it out it sure feels good to win one. Scott

I had a similar problem that turned out to be rust plugging up the feed to to the glass bowl. What looked to me to be plenty of fuel flow was not enough to keep the engine running for very long.
The easy stuff to check first is the screen in the glass bowl and the filter that is in the input fitting at the carb.
Also something worth checking would be loosening the fill cap to make sure it is not a venting problem(probably not)
If you pull the fitting out of the tank there will be screens around the feed points also. This is where my problem was. Tank rust and years of gook accumulated here. Sometimes after filling the tank it would dislodge some and the tractor would run pretty well for twenty minutes or so till all the gook found its way back to the feed point.
I ended up making a small tank with a hose that would connect directly to the carb to verify it was a tank/flow problem.

Good luck
Bill

There should be a screen attached to the elbow that screws into the carburetor. You can check for good fuel flow by removing the plug from bottom of carburetor. (The larger plug, not the recessed piece).
