Can I use a 12v bat in a 6v system? In other words will the 6v gen not let the 12v bat go any lower than 6v and can that battery operate at 6v L.D.

The simple answer to your question is no. If you are having electrical problems, please let us help you fix it. If you just want to convert to 12V, then do the conversion, but, please, do not just put a 12V battery in your 6 V system. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I agree with Dell it is a dumb idea, but I did it. You will drain the battery in about the same time it takes to drain the gas tank...or less. You will have to put it on the charger to keep it charged. But it does a nice job starting the tractor....until you use it for 4 hours hit something with the mower deck and stall it out in the field and the battery is dead. Then it is no fun. Now that I have a 6 volt battery it is much nicer not having to deal with all the problems. If you were thinking like I was that I had an extra battery I ought to get it running, it worked and I did not burn out anything. (results may vary).

Now why would you want to do that???

6 volt batterys are still readily available.

And allowing your 12 volt battery to discharge to 6 volts will kill your battery anyways.

In so many words, its a dumb idea..... ..Dell

J.D.Jonson, That 12 v will burn out your coil and cause other problems. You can purchase a conversion kit if would like to convert to 12 volt system.

Thanks for all the RE's. For all wanting to know why I wanted to do that is I have several 12v batteries. I thought I would just use one and not buy a 6v. My 6v charging systen works good and I do not need to convert to 12v. I will just buy a new 6v bat. Thanks again, L.D.
