I have been reading your forum for quite a while now and wanted to join in. I have had a 46 2N for about five years.(I was told it was a 9N when I bought it) I used it for the first season to mow and grade drive way at a Rock farm I have in Missouri. I wasn't that inpressed with the way the tractor operated because I was used to a newer New Holland we had at work. I let her set over the winter and the next spring she wouldn't start (duh). So there she sat for four years. I was always going to work on her but never took the time. This spring I got her going again. I thought I would sell her but after woking on her and giving her the TLC she needed I am hooked. My question is I have a Hyd leak where the lower lift arm bolts on. Is there a seal or packing or gasket there? The nut came lose while mowing and after I tighten it still leaks. Thanks all for your great advice.
Marty

You have to go into the rear end to tighten the nut inside (see pic). You remove the left trumpet and this allows you to get both sides. Some claim to be able to do it without removing the trumpet through pump or inspection covers. 2N/9N also has the plate on the outside which has a gasket. Check the archives many posts on this subject.

Marty..... .what Steve sez..... ..and..... .. Tighten that lower link pin's castelated nut to 150+ ft/lb torque before you put that cotterkey back in. Besides, gives you a chance to drain all 5 gals of hydro-tranny oil.

Drain the square diffy plug first because it pees with some accuracy. Then drain the 3" tranny plug; and finally the 3" hydro-pump plug. One fill'em-up by the tranny shifter.

Ford/New Holland now recommends spec: M2C-134D hydro-tranny fluid. Some claim it is too light weight and like the original 1939 spec 90wt mineral gear oil. (iff'n you can find it) GL-1 is a close approximation. DO NOT USE stinky modern multi-weight GL-4 or GL-5. It has additives that are "un-friendly" to your hydraulic pump's yellow metal..... ...Dell

Marty not a really bad job actually. I did it and I am an idiot (wife told me so).
Just be careful pulling the housing- its heavy.
I would strongly suggest doing this now before it loosens up more and puts the hole out of round.
Plan on a Saturday afternoon and you 'll be done before dark. Be careful the ring gear doesnt fall out I guess it could happen so have a spotter there.
