Anyone know of a good way to remove years of paint
off the serial plate on the engine so I can tell what year my 9n is?

I got a 52 model a few months ago, and feared the serial number was worn smooth off as I could only make out a few lines and symbols. I got some paint stripper and a small paintbrush (like is used on model cars) and applied paint stripper to just the flat serial number bar, waited, then wiped off with paper towels - repaeat. Then I lightly brushed the area with a COPPER welding brush. After about 10 applications, I was able to see the entire serial number. It was very light, but legible

Good luck,
Dan

Wire wheel? Should leave the paint in the crevases and make it easier to read. Some lightly sand.. som rub dark crayon ofer it to make the number bold.. bright sunlight and a small reflective mirror may help too.
