Does anybody know who makes a replacement shock for the seat of a 1949 8N seat. My friend restored the 49 down to every nut and bolt but can't find that part. Thanks for any help. jp

Monroe made the shock absorbers for the Ford seats. The Piston types that is. Check with your local Monroe dealer and if superceded he should be able to cross it over.
9N/2N Monroe p/n 11491
8N Monroe p/n 18144

If you have the rubber shocks, they can usually be rebuilt. Minn-kota does the rebuilding. go to the www.n-news.com and click on their classifieds section and scroll down to Minn-kota's ad.

Hope this helps

JP:

I rebuilt the rest-o-ride seat a while back, and the original shock was nowhere to be found.

From a tip on this board, I went to a local semi-truck dealership (Kenworth or Freightliner, I think) and found a replacement exactly the right size.

The shocks are now used in the seats on "big rigs". They make 20 different styles and sizes - you'll just have to try to manually match one up.

Also, someone posted on this board a scan of the original brochure for this seat - might be worth finding to print it out. Check the archives.

Actually the "Rest-O-Ride" seat used the rubber bushings.

The one with the shock adsorber was the "Monroe E-Z Ride" seat.

The names should link to the pictures. Below are the URL's if there is a problem.

Enjoy,
Larry
