I have a '52 8n and i have the opportunity to pick up a loader from a ford 800. This loader has a 5 ft. bucket on it. Does anyone know if it will fit on my 8 or is it too heavy,or need much modification to fit. Any help is appreciated!

Joe:

I just took an old Dearborn trip loader off my 44 2N. It was on the tractor when I bought it. It is handy but I will not put mine back on. The tractor steers so much better and you don't have to climb up over the rear of the tractor to get on and off. And plowing snow the traction is much improved.

Good luck!

I don't know about the fit but I have a 5 foot bucket on my 8N and it's great. Sure it has limitations. You can't pick up anything that will fit in the bucket because of weight limitations but it does make the tractor much more versatile and useful. I'm counterbalanced with a blade on the back and chains on the tires in the snow. Works great. Steering suffers a bit but worth it.

Joe: I've installed a Wagner "step-in" style loader on my 8N. This loader was for use on 600/800 series tractors. I would NOT do it again, and do NOT recommend doing it. ----- I have a backhoe mounted on the rear, so I have sufficient counterweight, but steering is a problem. Once moving, steering effort is acceptable, but trying to turn the wheel while stopped is EXTREMELY difficult.

I can't advise if it will fit, however I will give my 2 cents - a five foot bucket will be quite a chore for the N. Shortly after I bought my 8n I found a loader with a 3 ft bucket and had great visons of things I could do. After installation I quickly came to the realization that the 8n was not designed as a loader tractor. The the steering becomes a brutal chore and kiss goodbye any traction you had. The traction was helped by the additon of a 500 lb conrete block and backblade, however the steering is still bad. I can only imagine that a five foot bucket would REALLY overload the front end. The loader is handy for many tasks, however if you plan to move much dirt or rocks..... dont get your hopes up. I wouldn't recomend not getting it if it is a good deal, just understand the limitations.
