This morning i got up about 5 and started to plow snow. After about 2 hours of runinng the tractor i was on my way home and it quit. Before it quit the ammeter went up to 60. Could this be water in the distibutor, loose connections bad wires??? Any help appreciated

I have seen a two post after market ammeter go open the way you describe.

Easy enough to check--do you have voltage at the coil? If not wire around the ammeter and see if it will run.

Your mileage may vary

I had a truck do that to me one winter, the alt got filled with moisture after I plowed through a drift, after it dried out all was fine. Be real nice if your that lucky.

Ammeter goes to 60...I'd check wireing.

Do you have the oem ammeter.. that is a loop style one.. or a newer post style one.

Keep in mind that the ammeter must be in-circuit if wired like original, for ignition to have power. Though I have never seen an ammeter 'open'.. it is theoretically possible.

I'd make some voltage checks.. sounds like something shorted / burned out.

Benson..... ...your 2N quit and ammeter went to 60? is that charge? or discharge?

If'n charge, yer genny musta outputted some tremendiously HIGH VOLTS, which would also burn out your sparkie coil, probably trashed yer genny, and BOILED your battery dry.

If'n discharge, yer electrical system shorted sumwharrs which causes a serious lack of volts to run yer sparkies, arc-welded and burned wiring harness.

Eather case, yer gonna haffta be yer own detective/mechanic or pay someone. I flunked mindreading, just ask my ex-wife..... ...Dell
