Hi: I am stripping and fixing up my Old 9N. Serial
number 9N145163 and finding that it appears to have been painted Blue originally. The blue paint is in all he hidden crevices. Does any one know what the significance of this is? I dont think I really want to paint it Blue??.

When I sanded my 52 8n down to bare metal before painting, I went through 3 color layers.. the top.. generic red / grey.. looked like house paint... thick.. possibly latex ( guy was an old carpenter.. go figure.. even repaired the hood lid with cabinet hinges... I pulled those off ASAP... )second layer was ford blue.. 3rd layer was what I believe original ford medium grey.. etc.

I think some people wanted to give their tractors a bit more modern look to help with resale...when the blue fords came out. Similarly.. I'm sure a bunch of 9n / 2n's got redbelly paint jobs to give the appearance of an 8n.. etc.

I have been told that when FORD went to the BLUE color scheme that they offered owners of older modles the oppertunity to have thiers painted.I think when the machines came in for sevicing or when they were traded in.At least thats what I've heard.

I have a '52 8N. The interesting thing is that it looks like the tractor was painted Ford blue at one time, and I can't see any other color under the blue, so someone went to a lot of effort to paint it that color by removing the original paint first. Bryan

Bryan: that is the same with mine.. The blue paint is everywhere. and it is the Base coat..Even the back side of the Instrument panel has blue..Could it be that at one time they used Blue Primer? In order to get the Blue Paint in some of the Places I found it you would have to take things apart first...

well my 2n was also blue.. but its no cuinsidence.. the blue primer under the gray primer was to prevent erostion and rust. the gray primer was to make the gray (final coat) not have any of the blue blend in with it.. the same was with the 8n's

Sorry for the bad spelling
