I can not get my 2n to start. I was using it to move snow around. It worked great. Went back a couple of days later to start it and it will not. I charged the battery. I drained it trying to start the tractor. Once charged it seem to kick over but died like it was starving from gas. I checked the bowl it had a little ice on the bottom (not much) cleaned it out. Tried again and again over a couple of days. I now notice that gas is streaming out of the carb at the bottom where there is a hole. I assume this is the air horn drain hole. Any ideas?

My 2n gave me the exact same problem and it seemed to be solved by cleaning the carb. In the bottom of the float bowl there are the two holes that seem to store moisture and will not allow the tractor to start. I soaked mine in muriatic acid for a while then rinsed it out with water and then blew the whole thing dry with my air compressor. I also cleaned my entire fuel system,(tank, sediment bowl, filters)and added gas-line anti-freeze to my tank. I haven't had any problems since and have moved a lot of snow.Good Luck! Kent

I recently had a similar problem. I did the jump start, just as Zane suggested, it tried to go..kind of popped a few times...I then pulled the plug wires, one at a time, and inserted a screw driver into the ends of each and cranked it over positioning the screw driver close enough to the block for a spark to jump...just to make sure I had spark...I did...so I pulled each plug and checked them. They all looked pretty good but 2 out of the 4 would not spark and one sparked way up inside near the top of the electrode. I replaced them and jumped the ballast resistor, to put more voltage on the coil and it roared to life. (Pull the resistor jumper fast after it's running or you'll fry the coil!) Good luck!

Try spraying WD 40 on the distributor cap and the coil and then all the plug wires and the plugs that you can reach with the WD 40. This will prevent any current leakage to ground if the ignition parts are damp.

You might also try jumpint it off with the 12 volts from another vehicle with the jumper vehicle running by following this procedure.

When jump starting an N tractor with 12 volts it not necessary to hook the 12 volts to the 6 volts battery at all. As a matter of fact I strongly reccomend against it.
Instead hook the 12 volts directly to the frame of the tractor for the ground and with the transmission in neutral and out of the way of the wheels of the tractor so you don't get run over touch the other cable from the 12 volt source to the post on the starter.
By doing it this way you don't even have to worry about the polarity of the batterys or which cable you have to ground or positive to the frame or the starter as the 6 volt systme is not intered into at all with the 12 volts. Just turn on the switch and touch the hot cable to the starter post and it will go.

In addition to Zane's 12 volt jump, which will really crank it, I would think you have probably flooded it by now. The reason for the spray down is that with a front mount dist. any loose snow or water is often blown right on the dist. by the fan. Wire dry or alcohol works good too.

Try taking out the plugs and see if they are wet. If they are leave them out for a bit so things will dry out. You might want to check for spark while there out. I lay them on the block and with the fuel off, but the ignition switch on, give a few cranks, you should see a spark at each plug. If you don't check wires and connections.

When I start I use about 1/3 throttle. Choke it good. I often use a 12V jump. You might also try a shot of starter fluid. Spray it in by the air cleaner. Use only a little! Sometimes I loosen the connector between the air tube and the carb and give a quick shot there. Don't forget to turn on the switch, i've done that!

If you've got air, spark, and gas, eventually it will go!

Good Luck!

make sure the distributor cap is dry - while plowing snow it might have gotten wet.

I had same problem with my '46 2N. I had replaced coil but failed to make sure the gasket between the coil and dist. was squarely seated. I had also topped off antifreeze. Ran engine, antifreeze came out of overflow, sprayed on fan, and coated coil.

Try removing coil, pulling one clip off of dist. cap, and look for moisture. Then use a hair dryer to dry it out.

Good luck!

Make sure all the connections from the battery to the starter to the solenoid are clean. I recently had a problem and a good cleaning with sandpaper started me right up
