After turning off my '51 8-N and waiting about 2 minutes, there is a distinct "clank" sound coming from the transmission or clutch area. Anybody else have this noise, and what is it?

Apparently not a problem, just wondering...John A

My 47 2N makes that 'clank' as the lift leaks down. Apparently my lift cylinder is not perfectly sealed at the higher position(s) . It slowly drops when it is raised all the way up (making that clank noise), then it hits a spot where it stops and the lift holds and the clank stops too.

I don't recall any such noise from my 2n, but do you think it could be either the metal contracting as it cools down or the lift bottoming out as it leaks down? Just a thought.

Could be, but it's more than just the normal metal contraction sounds. More like a piece of metal hitting against heavy metal. I've had the tractor for over 13 years and it's always done it. Don't think its the lift because it stays up.

Like I said, I'm not worried, just curious.

Thanks for the reply.....John A
