Couple of days ago I asked a question about welding one of my lift arms. Gonna try to weld it on the tractor. Tried to take it off but it won't budge. If I do have to remove it is there a secret to pulling it?

Weld the arm on the tractor. You will be way ahead of the game.

I have seen the whole lift cover assembly ruined by trying to get one of those lift arms off. Not all lift arms are created eaqual. Some cooperate and some don't. If you get the "don't" it is going to be a big mistake to try and get that thing off.

I second the heat and softface hammer. In my case I used a copper mallet, a propane torch, and lots of penetraiting oil, applied often and liberally. I would start oiling a day before I started working on it.

Perhaps a gear puller might help, or even a wedge of some sort, like a tie rod enf seperator, to help leverage the rod off.

I used an oxy-acetylene torch to heat my lift arms red hot and used a brass mallet to loosen the arms from the rockshaft. The one on the left was the worst; the one on the right side came off without any heat. I guess heating, beating and knocking on the left side loosened the right side a little. (If I hadn't busted my lift cover trying to press the rockshaft out of the cover, the job would have gone real well). However, it was a learning experience. Rick H. Ga.

Hi Rob,

You will need to use a lot of heat and a brass hammer/mallet to force the arm off the rockshaft. The level of effort depends on the amount of rust and corrosion in the joint. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

That arm on ebay went for $30.50 plus freight from Glendale. Ca. I guess.
