Levelling a rotary cutter

I am pulling a Woods M5 with a Massey Compact Utility. I found that in order to level the deck of the bush hog, I have to keep the 3 pt. about 3/4 of the way up at all times. I feel that always having pressure on the left arms like this is sapping horsepower away from my PTO and ground speed. Is there some sort of chain leveller I can get to stop the front of the cutter from dropping all the way into the dirt when I lower the 3 pt?

The front of the mover hangs on the chains. I hear F/NH sells the limiter chains for $25, dunno. I made mine but I have a lot of chain around here.

There are two things here to look at. One is check chains the other is how rotary mowers work. The New Holland rotary mower I have recommends the front of the mower be a little closer to the ground than the tail end. This aids in the rear discharge of the grass and helps keep the RPM's up. Check chains are a must to keep the cut level and your PTO unstressed. BTW, a good place to hook up the check chain adapters is on the rear axle flanges that protrude from the axle housing on either side of the top link assy.

is the lift arms. I drilled out the rivets for the linch pin holders and installed a couple of tabs made fron 1/4" X 1 1/2" strap. The tab extends about an inch above the arms, with a 3/8" hole in them. I keep linch pins in each implement, so I didn't need them anyway. They work well. This prevents running out of room on the lower pins, since I use the sway bars on nearly every piece of equipment, too.

That should have said, "....and a good place for the lower connection is the lift arms" (musta run out of room).
