Hello, Iam looking at purchasing a 5 foot King Kutter bush hog to pull behind my 8n. I have only tall grass to mow. King Kutter is $600 at TSC. Does anybody have good or bad experiences with this bush hog? Thanks Gino

$600 is way to high. At the TSCs here they are a little over $500. At the Feldman's here (a farm and home place) they are $488.

The worst thing about KK stuff in my opinon is the paint. It's horrible. It's thin, they miss a lot of spots, and it isn't really glossy.

Chances are when you buy your new mower it will have some surface rust. A local farm store here had one unsold from last year and left it outside all winter. It looks like it's ten years old, with large portions of exposed surfaces exhibiting moderate to heavy surface rust.

That being said, KK stuff seems to be pretty good mechanically. I've got a blade and a scoop and they are plenty heavy for N use, and have no damage despite hitting rocks and other immovable objects with both. But one of these days I'm going to repaint them (red!).

I've had my 5' KK brush mower for going on 2 years now. I've mowed 13 ac of grass, heavy briar and 7' tall ragweed and dog fennel. It is a great unit.

As others point out.. it isn't a heavy duty unit.. it is light/medium duty at best. If you constantly hit rocks, scalp high dirt mounds and cut up timber hiding in the grass.. yes.. it won't hold up.

I used to have an older ford 951 4' hog from 1985... it was solid and sturdy... i think I could have used it as a wood chipper... I just needed the 5' hog to reduce cutting time.

I'd buy one again... besides at the price.. it generally is one half or two thirds the prices of the others... if it only lasts you 10 years... thats like 60 bucks a year.. then go get a new one..

600 sounds just a few dollars high.. here, our tsc stores have them for something like 560. I took out one of their credit cards.. they will give you something like 10% or 5% off sometimes when they have promos... Got my hog for something like 504.00 plus 35 something tax... not too bad.. then I got three months no interest to pay.. not bad either..
It is just a bit of a bear to put together.. think it took me 30 minutes or so... I just assembled it right on the back of my flatbed, and them scooted it over to the edge and lifted it off with the tractor. The only buggers were the t upright/stabilizer supports going to the back.. they are flat stock metal, but assemble a bit bowed... just have to keep all the nuts and bolts loose, and do some creative handwork..

Hi Gino, I have a 5 foot King Kutter for the past three years. No problems. I have an ORC on my 52 N and no cutting of the PTO shaft was needed. I don't think you will be disappointed if you by it.

Hi Gino,

I have a 5 foot King Kutter brush hog I have had for over 20 years and it is still in good condition although it could use some new blades. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

I had a 5ft. King Kutter. They are very light duty, and OK for just grass (that means no rocks too !!). When I used mine to do heavier mowing, it eventually disintegrated it's self. I have a heavy duty Ford model 953 rotary mower now. It stands the gaff much better when mowing the thick stuff. I use the sickle bar for everything else. I am not saying King Kutters are a bad mower, but the bottom line is: You get what you pay for.

Hi Eserv,

You are right. The King Kutter rotary mower is a light to medium duty implement. There is no substitute for using the right tool for the job. Rick H. Ga.
