My "new" Jubilee has a crack in the center housing from the top of the housing down to the hole where the PTO control is, and also a crack in the lift cover from the same point up to underneath the seat. Both were welded at some point, the lift cover not very well so I'm putting a new one on. Besides, I'm going to be pulling a plow with this tractor and a lift cover with a crack just ahead of the lift arms doesn't seem like a good idea.

A few questions (thanks in advance!):

How long should it take to swap all the parts over from the old lift cover to the new one? I have all the gaskets and a shop manual. Any gotchas besides the backpressure valve?

Also, should I worry about the center housing crack? The weld is starting to open up again, but I assume a virgin lift cover will serve to hold the thing together, right?

Finally, how in heck does one make a crack like that running across two castings? Put a jack in the wrong place? Drop a wheel in a hole while plowing? Do something really unwise with a backhoe?
